This term we have been looking at the question “Are all villages the same?” We have been comparing Wingham village to villages and life in Africa. We were so lucky to have a zoom session with Mrs Piper’s Mum from her farm in South Africa. She told the children all about life there and the animals, kudu, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, to name a few that walk past her house. We even got to see a giraffe in the distance. We had a fabulous dance session during Black History Month from Gaspard Zamble who is from the Ivory Coast.
In DT we have been looking at African musical instruments and are busy designing and making our own instruments.During Black History week we looked at an artist called “Bibi” who is from Nigeria. We recreated some of her paintings and studied all the different African patterns which we hope to use on our musical instruments.
In Science we have been studying plants and we are growing our own crocuses and amaryllis bulbs. They are coming along nicely. We have been looking at the scientific enquiry of fair testing and observing changes over time.
In Computing we have been doing stop motion and making our own animations. We had to make a story board and make characters out of plasticine and then take photos of our characters over and over again and moved them a little bit each time to create our animated story.
We have continued with our weekly forest school lessons which is the favourite part of the week. We have explored natural materials and made our own leaf bowls.
