We have had another busy and exciting term learning all about pirates. We are very happy to all be together as a class again and have been enjoying learning with our friends.
In English, we have continued reading pirate stories and focusing on writing interesting descriptions of characters and settings. We have also learned how to use question marks and exclamation marks correctly.
In maths, we have been enjoying practical lessons about measuring. We have been learning about height, weight and capacity.
In science, we continued learning about materials and their properties. We used our knowledge of materials to design and make a pirate ship. We then tested our ships on water to see if they floated or sank. I am happy to say that all of them floated!
We recently enjoyed a pirate workshop with Captain Raggedybeard. He kept the children entertained for hours with his engaging stories about pirates, mermaids and treasure. The children were delighted to receive a ‘mermaids tear’ at the end of the day.
We also enjoyed a field trip around Wingham. We looked at different landmarks and plotted them on a map. During forest school we looked for ‘signs of Spring’ in the school grounds and made pirates out of sticks.
During Book Week, we dressed up as our favourite book character and received a visit from the author of ‘Lottie and Dottie Sow Carrots’. During this workshop, we planted carrot seeds and listened to the author read her story.
