Term 4

We have continued our topic of “Are heroes worldwide” and this term we have focussed a lot on real life heroes.

We were lucky to have a few visitors come and visit us and tell us about their jobs.

We had PC Bowler come and visit us to share what he does.  The class learnt all about what he does and we also had a visit from Police Dog Barker.  The Police are clearly heroes to us!

Mrs Raynor came in from the Fire brigade and bought in a fire engine.  The class had so many questions and the highlights were being able to sit in the fire engine and turn on and off the hose pipes and spray water high in the air.

We also had an amazing visit from Doctor Cartledge who talked to the class about her role as a real life hero and bought in lots of his equipment for the class to look at and try out! Not only did we have a doctor but Mrs Eske, a vet came in and told us how to take care of our pets. She also bought in her pet tortoise and we got to look after him for the day.

In literacy, we created our own superhero story with an evil villain! We loved the book “Supertato” and had a fabulous workshop where we got to make our own potato superhero!  We explored the use of adjectives and adverbs and used these when writing our own story about vegetable superheroes!  We have ended this term writing about the book Traction Man and made our own comic books.

Even though the weather has not always been great, we managed to get out and look for living things around the school linked to our Science learning.

In history we have learnt about many real life heroes like Malala Yousafzai, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges and Nelson Mandela.

In PE we have had coaches teach us tennis and we have had an amazing time.  Tennis has become a very popular sport in our class.

In maths we have worked on multiplication and division and are finishing off the term learning about mass, temperature and capacity. We have loved the practical side of this unit of learning.

In art we have been learning about pop art and the artist Roy Lichtenstein. We explored primary colours and we then created our own pop art images using collage. We are really proud of the work we have made.

This term we have taken part in some fabulous events.  During Science week, we went to Monkton Nature Reserve and looked for living things around the Reserve and in the pond. We also made a poster about the different parts of a plant.

We also took part in World book day and had a fabulous workshop from Alastair Daniel where we learnt all about the different stories of Little Red Riding Hood.

We also enjoyed having a significant female visit us and we drew our Mums and they drew us and then we wrote why they are heroes to us.

In DT we looked at African instruments and then we made our own.

As you can see it has been a very busy term!  We loved showcasing all our learning in our assembly! Happy Easter everyone.
