Term 3

What a wonderful and informative day Sycamore Class experienced this term. They learned all about famous Pharaoh’s, Ancient Egyptian beliefs (gods and goddesses), took part in creating their own individual amulets as well as a whole host of other engaging and enjoyable Ancient Egyptian based activities. As you can see, a great time was had by all!

This week we have been learning what it means to be a global citizen, and in particular learning about China- and its place in the world. Sycamore Class took part in a fun and engaging ‘Chinese workshop’ learning different dances- using parasols and a Chinese dragon. We have also been learning about the Shang Dynasty and have created some amazing Chinese themed bookmarks.

This term in science we have been learning about Electricity. The children have learnt about mains powered electricity and battery powered electricity. We have also been learning about creating electrical circuits and investigating increasing the voltage, and adding additional components to the circuit. As you can see the children have had great fun taking part in these practical lessons.

In Sycamore Class we have used our art lessons to support our topic on The Ancient Egyptians. We began by researching death and burial customs. We discovered how and why the bodies of Egyptians were embalmed, wrapped and encased within a sarcophagus. We focused in detail on the Canopic jars, used to preserve valuable body parts needed in the Afterlife. We designed our own Canopic jars and using Modroc, we sculpted realistic replicas, similar to those found in Tutankhamun’s tomb.

In PE this term Sycamore Class have been learning Yoga skills. The children have been learning how to relax and how to create and hold the various yoga positions. As a result, Sycamore Class are now very ‘zen’.
