Throughout the term we have been talking about our similarities and differences, how we change as we get older, and how we differ in our likes and dislikes and generally just getting to know each other
To begin, we had a close look at ‘What makes me!' We noticed that our features are all unique and different and celebrated this by having a go at creating a self-portrait, mixing our skin colours using the primary colours of red, blue and yellow and a bit of white.
In Maths we have been exploring how to group sort and identify sets of different objects. We have been looking at patterns and discovered patterns are all around us- even music is a pattern of musical notes. We have made sound and body percussion patterns, made patterns using pegs and used leaves conkers acorns fir cones outside to create different repeating patterns.
We have then been looking at how things can be measured, introducing key vocabulary such as length, capacity, volume and weight and exploring how to compare objects using keywords.
We have even sorted leaves by colour, size and type in Forest School sessions and recorded what we found on our very own sticky crowns!

We have started Drawing Club this term and have been excited to create characters, settings and adventures based on a weekly focus story. Not only is it helping us develop new vocabulary, it is developing our fine motor skills and confidence to do mark making in a meaningful and purposeful way. It is also developing our storytelling and imagination in an incredibly fun way.
It is wonderful to invite our families each Friday morning for family reading. The children were so brave when it came to saying goodbye, and it just shows how they are developing in such a very short time of coming to school.
Our artist for this term was the Japanese abstract artist Yayoi Kusama who was known as the ‘Queen of polka dots.’ Using our fingertips we have created some stunning pictures of our own inspired by her work. We particularly liked her pumpkin-themed pieces, so used them for inspiration.
In the last week it was great to invite our families in to help us design and create a t-shirt in the style of Yayoi Kusama.
It’s been an incredibly rewarding first term at school and we look forward to new adventures next term!
