Wingham Primary School

Learning together, we grow kind hearts and healthy minds

Early Years Foundation Stage

In Reception at Wingham we aim to provide a caring, nurturing , positive and happy learning environment which allows our children to develop their full potential showing resilence and good levels of well being.

Our RICH values are reflected in our school ethos and embedded within our engaging curriculum.

We show Respect for our environment and our friends and those in our school.

We are Inclusive thinking about the needs of others and that we are all different but valued equally.

We are Creative with our minds and thinking, we ask questions and are curious. We study artists and composers and create our own masterpieces.

We are Hardworking trying our very best even though it may be challenging.

Our high quality adult interactions with the children enhance learning and development whilst following the children's lead. Our aim is to provide our children with knowledge, skills and experiences in a hands on holistic way so that learning is embedded in a meaningful context.

The children are taught and assessed under the new sections of the EYFS, set out below:

Threaded throughout the EYFS curriculum at Preston are the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning'.

Playing and Exploring- children investigate and experience things, and 'have a go'

Active Learning- children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements.

Creating and Thinking Critically- children have and developed their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.

Our children’s physical and mental wellbeing is important to us and we teach them important self-regulation techniques and how to make and build positive relationships right from when they join us. We use Heartsmart which is a creative approach to build character, emotional health and resilience in our children. The Thrive approach is adopted throughout from the outset ensuring we are meeting the emotional needs of all our children. We want our children to be tolerant of others and understand the need for kindness, empathy and respect. This is threaded throughout our daily teaching and alongside this our children learn about different religions, cultures and places of worship.

Children are full of such wonder and curiosity and it's marvellous to see that flourish as they start their learning journey with us at Preston. We want nurture that curiosity , feed their imagination and excite them with their learning
