Learning together, we grow kind hearts and healthy minds
Our topic question this term is ‘Could the Gruffalo live with all the other animals?’. To help us answer this, we have been learning about the different animal groups. We have sorted many animals into their animals groups and have decided that the Gruffalo wouldn’t be able to live with the fish as he is a mammal and doesn’t have gills to help him breathe under water.
We were very lucky to have an art morning with Mrs Buddle this term. She showed us how to sketch The Gruffalo and paint him using water colour paints. We learnt to use the correct size brush and how to show texture in our paintings.
In DT we have been making pop up books. Before we could make our own book, we read lots of pop up books and thought about how they worked. Next, we practised making springs, flaps and fold and cut pop ups. We are currently writing our own pop up Gruffalo books.
We also took part in a Gruffalo’s child story workshop this term. We used dance, drama and yoga to retell the story. It was a lot of fun acting out different characters and listening to the music. We particularly enjoyed being the snake!
In maths we have been learning about shapes. We have completed lots of different 2D and 3D shape activities and can now confidently name and describe different shapes.
Finally, it has been a very busy term rehearsing and performing our Nativity ‘A King is Born’. All of the children worked incredibly hard and looked amazing in their costumes. Well done Holly Class!
