It’s all about the children

Term 2

We began Term 2 with Black History Week, where each class focused on a significant black athlete. Year One, learnt lots of interesting facts about Lewis Hamilton which we made into a fact-file. We were also lucky enough to take part in an African dance workshop, where we learnt some African dance moves which we performed to the beat of a drum.

Our main topic this term has been The Gruffalo and we have been thinking about the question ‘Could The Gruffalo live together with the other animals?’. We had a fantastic morning learning how to draw The Gruffalo, during a visit from a local artist. We have also enjoyed painting some of the animals from the story with Mrs Baldwin.

In maths, we have been learning our numbers to 20. We have been learning to order the numbers and compare them.  We also did a unit of learning about 2d and 3d shapes.

In English, we have written lots of wonderful descriptions about the setting of The Gruffalo and also the characters in The Gruffalo. We used lots of interesting adjectives to describe their appearance and their personality. As part of DT, we made our own books about The Gruffalo where we re-told the story in our own words. We then made a page with a moving part to make the story come alive! We have also really enjoyed reading many other Julia Donaldson stories at the end of the day.

For the last few weeks, we have been very busy learning songs and practising for our Christmas production, Angel Express. We enjoyed performing it for the other classes and for our parents. It was the perfect way to finish such a great term!
